We grew up in a small coastal city in Sweden, with nature and everything she had to offer just around the corner. This was before mobile telephones or tablet computers, and we would spend much of our childhood and youth in the forest, around lakes, streams and the sea. We were skateboarding, canoeing and kayaking. As we got older, we got interested in surfing, and even back then, the idea of building our own surfboards was present with us.
Even back then, the idea of building our own surfboards was present with us…
Because of this, the environment has always been important to us, and many years later, when we started Black Cat Boards, our original idea was to build composite boards from an environmentally friendly material. In December 2012, we met with the Swedish company Trifilon for a project developing kayaks made from natural fibers. That project would come to naught, but we kept contact with Trifilon, starting a discussion about developing natural fiber SUPs and surfboards. By the end of 2015, our first wave-SUP prototype was ready, and proved to be an excellent performer. Our new challenge for 2016 is to develop a long distance board from the same material.
To us at Black Cat Boards, the environment is central, and naturally we have worked hard to make our inflatable boards reach the same standards as well! For our suppliers, we have therefore made sure to choose those who utilize green raw materials that are friendly to nature. Another aspect at least as central in choosing suppliers is the working environment in factories. Large, clean spaces with modern equipment, appropriate safety protection for workers and an overall humane environment with reasonable working hours are all parameters relevant to our choice of supplier. The result is a green, high-quality product created under fair conditions!
